if "make -e" is run on a Makefile, which calls $(MAKE), will the "-e"
(environment variables get priority) be inherited by $(MAKE) ?

I guess not, but I need to confirm this before I can fix this.

When I replace $(MAKE) by $(MAKE) -e in the (sub)Makefiles, the install
succeeds.

Seeing how other recipes do this.
