just like OECONF_EXTRA flags, scons, the bane of the developers' existence,
unfortunately also needs something similar so that it's no longer necessary to
do a total replacement job on both do_compile and do_install, just because
there might be something sliiightly different required from the scons.bbclass
compile/install defaults
