[OE-core] can i move between build dirs just by resetting BUILDDIR env var?

  i suspect that's not the approved way of doing it but, after
perusing the env startup scripts, it seems that the only difference
between one's env in different build dirs is the value of BUILDDIR.
is that correct?  can i just change build dirs and reset that env var
and be good to go?
