Thanks for the helping hint. You are right I am not using latest
oe-core. After cherry-picking qt-related patches (especially the one
you mentioned) configure passes.

But now I fail for known ARM issue [1]

Have not found a solution yet. FWIW qt-creator 2.8.0 fails same.
