you will have a _lot_ of pain with the wireless extensions, if you don't patch
the sharp kernel to feature more modern versions. Since the ancient times the
binary struct changed a lot, so even the wireless tools won't work, if you
don't update. Luckily, almost all patches are available -- even for the
2.4.18-ancient-embedix-montavista-should-be-stoned
