Summary: Can't use JFFS2 root image - older jffs2 fs with newer
kernel?
Product: Openembedded
Version: Angstrom
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: blocker
Priority: P1
Component: Distributions
AssignedTo: openembedded-issues at lists.openembedded.org
ReportedBy: andrea.adami at gmail.com
QAContact: tinderbox-oe at gmx.net
I'm trying to boot a self-built angstrom image.
The kernel boots fine, makes it to the
point where it would normally mount root.
Then stucks and starts scrolling with the message:
jffs2_scan_eraseblock(): Magic bitmask 0x1985 not found at 0x0000000x: 0x00xx
instead
...
...
A quick search on Google reveals something similar:
http://groups.google.com/groups?lnk=hpsg&q=jffs2_scan_eraseblock%28%29%3A+Magic+bitmask+0x1985+not+found
I cannot read the first lines but here are some full logs (from ancient posts):
# mount -t jffs2 /dev/mtdblock/2 /mnt
Old JFFS2 bitmask found at 0x00000000
You cannot use older JFFS2 filesystems with newer kernels
jffs2_scan_eraseblock(): Magic bitmask 0x1985 not found at 0x00000004: 0x0040
instead
jffs2_scan_eraseblock(): Magic bitmask 0x1985 not found at 0x00000008: 0x0001
instead
...
...
jffs2_scan_eraseblock(): Magic bitmask 0x1985 not found at 0x00000044: 0x000b
instead
Further such events for this erase block will not be printed
JFFS2: Erase block at 0x00000000 is not formatted. It will be erased
