        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW

See

for detailed discussion. Summary:

Some machines use following construct:

FILES_kernel-image = ""

to get a rootfs image without /boot/zImage (on the basis that they use other
means to store kernel image, like separate MTD partition).

Such usage considered a hack on packaging system, which leads to various
misfeatures (and teh main being that kernel itself is made to escape package
management).

So instead, another solution is proposed - if we need to have ability to remove
zImage from rootfs, let's do just that - use ROOTFS_POSTPROCESS_COMMAND to run
a postprocessing function which will remove /boot/zImage*.

In this way, there will still be support for management of kernel images using
ipkg. Of course, users of adhoc bootloader will need to perform extra (manual?)
operations to actually use upgraded kernel, but: 1) we could automate that
(per-machine overridable); 2) the general direction hopefully would be adopting
general bootloading solution like LAB/altboot.

Attach is the patch to implement postprocessing command.
