On what machine(s)? As I wrote above, it fails on 2 machines of 3 I tested. I
just retested it with yestrday's build on h4000 - still occurs. 

It indeed seems like possible kernel config issue.

IMHO, worth keeping open until investigated, and anyway, segfaulting if not a
way to deal with unexpected conditions.
