armv4t libperl:

        # perl -le '$i = 42; print $i; print log $i; print $i'
        42
        11.8680725100324
        142640

armv5te libperl does work:
        # perl -le '$i = 42; print $i; print log $i; print $i'
        42
        3.73766961828337
        42

The original reporter hinted that recompiling with -O1 instead of -Os might
help
