I also noted some additional errors while the machine is booting:
"Could not open /dev/sound/mixer: no such directory"
"modprobe: FATAL: Could not open '/lib/modules/2.6.20/kernel/net/irda/irda.ko':
No such file or directory"
"FATAL: Could not open
'/lib/modules/2.6.20/kernel/drivers/input/misc/uinput.ki': No such file or
directory"
