Since people asked on irc: "sudo dpkg-reconfigure dash" comes to the rescue. 
Make sure to choose NOT to have dash as /bin/sh.

Closing since this is not an OE but an ubuntu bug (cf. 
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dash/+bug/108494 et al.)
