There are user-space booting problems, but altboot allows dropping into shell.
>From shell, I loaded the necessary modules by hand, but /dev/mmcblk0 nodes
still did not appeared (albeit dmesg showed detection of the device).

Only after I started udev daemon (/etc/init.d/udev start), were the necessary
device nodes created.

Then, I managed to mount the ext2 filesystem from the SD.

Rolf, consider the bug fixed.
