Bug in gtk-engines in the current .dev tree; scrolls a whole lot of errors but
it boils down to a missing file

/mnt/storage/oetmp/staging/arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi/share/pkgconfig/gtk+-2.0.pc

The above does not exist, however a quick locate reveils:

/mnt/storage/oetmp/staging/arm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi/lib/pkgconfig/gtk+-2.0.pc

A simple copy operation gets around this bug but obviously it should be
resolved.
