IOW, it seems that 

a) upgrade altboot, cfg gone, deinstall and reinstall altboot -> seems to be OK
b) upgrade altboot, cfg gone, copy cfg from backup -> your system is fscked

I also verified today with a self-compiled ipk that the cfg file will be
removed when upgrading 1.0.5 to the most recent version 1.1.1+wip-20061123-r0.
