I'm of the opinion the issue could have something to do with Xfbdev pointer
autodetection:
I've removed from udev.rules the lines related to mice and mouse<n> devices and
the touchscreen gets correctly detected without any modification of the Xserver
script. The responsiveness of the touchscreen and of GPE seem to benefit as
well (because not using the -mouse switch?).

Does Xfbdev prefer /dev/input/[mice|mouse0] over TSLIB_DEVICE?

I wonder if the solution could just be letting the palmtx have its own
udev.rules.
