I put the following line in local.conf to solve this:

SRCDATE_gpesyncd="20070701"

The gpesyncd developers solved this issue last year and this line just makes
Angstrom use the latest gpesyncd code.  The permanent solution is for this line
to be changed in 'conf/distro/include/sane-srcdates.inc'.
