bitbake log around location of build failure

when bitbaking gpe-image, it tries to build gnome-desktop, which fails with:

gnome-hint.c:13:25: error: libxml/tree.h: No such file or directory
| gnome-hint.c:14:27: error: libxml/parser.h: No such file or directory
| gnome-hint.c:15:30: error: libxml/xmlmemory.h: No such file or directory

Probably there is an unmet dependency.
Question: Why is gnome desktp required for gpe anyhow ?
