Summary: spitz soundcard unusable for sample rates < 12000
Product: Zaurus Kernel
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Keywords: ARC, C3x00
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: C3xxx
AssignedTo: openembedded-issues at lists.openembedded.org
ReportedBy: utx at penguin.cz
Sound samples played at sample rates under 12000/sec have muttering output and
it is not possible to understand. The problem affect for example flite
(impossible to understand speeech output at 8000/sec), linphone (impossible to
understand opposite side at 8000/sec).
How to reproduce:
1) Record anything at rate 8000/sec (e. g. output from flite)
2) Play it on Zaurus. Impossible to understand.
3) Take the original sample and upsample it to 11999/sec. Play it on Zaurus.
Better, but again hard to understand.
4) Take the original sample and upsample it to 12000/sec. Play it on Zaurus.
Good sound, easy to understand.
5) Recording quality was not tested.
6) Subsequent playing of two samples with different sample rates often mutes
the second sample. For example: "aplay test_rate11010.wav ; aplay
test_rate11020.wav" mutes the second sample. "aplay test_rate11010.wav ; sleep
1 ; aplay test_rate11020.wav" works.
7) Problem is reproducible for both speaker and headphones.
