It was a standard output of flite (speach synthesis).

The same problem affects SIP phone talk - it's impossible to understand.

Attaching two sound samples:

sound8k.wav is the original

sound16k.wav is upsampled by "sox sound8k.wav -r 16000 sound16k.wav resample"

Both sound equally on a desktop machine.

Only sound16k.wav could be understood on my Zaurus SL-C3200.

Using the latest Angstrom kernel.

Confirming that the problem exists immediately after reboot.
