... And another mistake is that you mix "does not boot" with "does not boot
from flash". h3900 images (as any other for hh.org devices) boot pretty well
from NFS and a memory card (SD in h3900 case). SD card boot is what recommended
for all novice users.

As for flash boot, the plan is: experienced users who need it debug the issues,
fix them, and post patches.
