(10:31:26) Laibsch: hrw: I'd like to work on Japanese fonts. Can you help me
out a bit along the way?
(10:31:34) hrw: sure
(10:32:59) Laibsch: hrw: First question is qpf or ttf? You once said I should
go for ttf since the overhead is minimal. Do I remember correctly?
(10:33:03) Laibsch: hrw: The problem is that ttf fonts are currently not listed
in the opie appearance tab of my installation.
(10:33:51) Laibsch: hrw: am I missing a package?
(10:34:30) hrw: Laibsch: you miss update-qtttffontdir (sth like that) call
(10:35:24) Laibsch: hrw: So I need to update the bb file for the respective
font, right?
(10:35:33) ***Laibsch looks for examples
(10:35:55) hrw: Laibsch: there is nothing called when ttf is installed
(10:37:27) hrw: Laibsch: ttf basically. but for cjkv they are BIG..
(10:37:54) Laibsch: hrw: That is the next task. Make them smaller like
qpf-unismall
(11:50:28) Laibsch: hrw: I don't quite understand your comment about
update-qtttffontdir. What is missing?
(11:50:47) Laibsch: I looked at the other font bb files and they are similar
enough.
(11:52:10) hrw: Laibsch: ttf fonts after install should call it in opie and
fc-cache in x11 ones. but you need to check does those utils are on device
(11:53:58) Laibsch: OK, should the fonts then not depend on one of the two?
(11:54:14) Laibsch: Maybe via virtual/update-fonts ?
(11:54:18) hrw: Laibsch: no
(11:54:47) Laibsch: Why not?
(11:55:10) hrw: Laibsch: update-qtttf store in /opt/QtPalmtop/lib/fonts which
is ugly. fc-cache == fontconfig == extra unused lib in opie images
(11:55:56) Laibsch: That is why I suggested virtual/update-fonts and then they
could both provide it. AFAIU, one of the two needs to be installed.
(11:56:15) hrw: ipkg install virtual/update-fonts?
(11:57:16) Laibsch: No, but the same way that qpf-unismall RPROVIDES
virtual/japanese-font
(11:58:28) hrw: Laibsch: I would rather add update-qtttf into opie RDEPENDS so
it will be available and fc-cache package as RDEPENDS for fontconfig or such
(11:59:27) Laibsch: Fine with me
(11:59:57) Laibsch: Well, bur of course it is not strictly depended upon
(12:01:02) Laibsch: hrw: BTW, calling "update-qtttffontdir
/opt/QtPalmtop/lib/fonts/" and then restarting opie did not make the
sazanami-font show up in Appearance.
(12:04:40) XorA: hrw: /etc/update-fonts.d/01fc-cache
/etc/update-fonts.d/02qtttf-fontdir
(12:04:48) hrw: XorA: or that
(12:04:52) XorA: hrw: that way you can handle systems with both installed
(12:05:28) XorA: then found just DEPEND on font-update-common
(12:05:33) XorA: s/found/fonts/
(12:11:27) Laibsch: XorA: Are you going to implement that?
(12:12:12) XorA: Laibsch: not for 2 weeks
(12:12:30) XorA: Laibsch: if you feel like you like it file a bug and assign it
to me, Ill look when I get back from amsterdam
(12:12:35) Laibsch: XorA: What would it entail?
(12:12:47) XorA: Laibsch: a couple of .bb files and simple scripts
(12:12:48) Laibsch: XorA: OK, that is what I'll do
