I take it that you were trying the "pure" fluxbox package, not "fluxbox-gpe"
right?

The latter is designed to integrate nicely with matchbox and GPE in general but
still has some rough edges.

I installed fluxbox-gpe on Akita on a recent image w/o any unexpected problems.

OTOH I do not know if the pure fluxbox package ever worked w/o manual
work-arounds.
