Being able to log things from shell function is useful and I'm not against
exporting information about log levels from bitbake to be able to do this. Its
certainly preferable to hardcoding echo "NOTE:" into shell scripts.
The problem is that the data won't appear in the standard bitbake logging
streams. We could conceivably grep the shell output data for references to
"NOTE:", "DEBUG:" etc and inject it into the proper streams?
So I guess I'm in favour of keeping them but they need work,
