Hmm. I have already committed a fix for this in  .dev using the first method.
Unless you or anyone else has violent objections I will soon post an RFC to
have this applied to stable as well.

BTW I consider suspend not working to be quite serious - it basically makes the
device impractical for daily use, which is why I set severity to major.
