If the machine cannot be shut down completely, that is OK. But the current
situation is unacceptable.
1) the splash screen gives the impression the machine has hung
2) the screen remains on and draws a lot of power
3) there is no obvious way to recover and reboot the shut down machine
Is it possible to cut off power to the CPU without taking the battery out?
