OE build fails while building glibc ...

I tried to do a "mtn pull; mtn update" to see if there were any fixed to the
glibc issue in addition to
deleting "tmp" and doing a clean "bitbake minimal-image" which again failed
on glibc-intermediate-2.6.1...
Has anyone recently been able to do a clean checkout of openembedded.stable
and get it built on a Ubuntu 7.10 host machine?
I am running out of ideas on how to fix this issue.... any help/ideas will
be appreciated.

Nuking tmp seems to be the Universal Elixir for OE...
(just in case you're not familiar with American slang -- go ahead and
delete it).
