ABI change

[Elena of Valhalla]

This morning, after an update, bitbake greeted me with the following error

       Error, TMPDIR has changed ABI (1 to 2) and you need to either
rebuild, revert or adjust it at your own risk.

googling I've found that the error text comes from sanity.bbclass and
I've found a february commit where the comments suggested that changes
to the ABI would have been discussed on some mailing list

the current version of sanity.bbclass doesn't seem to mention such
discussions, and I couldn't find anything on the lists, so I'm
wondering: is the change documented anywhere else I didn't find?
