Good video boards?

We've been trying and failing to get a project going that really shouldn't be
this hard. The first try wasn't fast enough. We looked at some EPIA-SN
boards, but both of them died suddenly and at the moment we still don't have an
explanation. The driver picture was somewhat doubtful at the time as well. I
tried a BeagleBoard based on the demo videos, only to discover that the
graphics drivers being demoed were based on proprietary, un-released code, and
so doesn't do me any good.

In case we have to start over again, I realized I've kind of put the cart
before the horse. Rather than get a board and see if works, it might be nice
to start with OE/Angstrom, which we've been using so far, and see what hardware
it supports well.

We want to run dual monitors (two communicating boards if necessary), one with
full-screen streaming video (mpeg, etc) and the other with video on about 1/3
of the screen and a free rotating image covering most of the rest of the
screen. Our sample art was 720x480, and we've played at times with 640x480 and
800x600. The application also needs some GPIO; we could use an external USB
controller in a pinch.
