X doesn't take up a lot of space, contrary to popular belief. I'm not
quite sure what your applications are, but try either FluxBox or
Enlightenment. There is an article on slashdot about enlightenment on
the Palm Treo 650 and the Neo FreeRunner today - it requires 32 MB of
RAM, kernel et al, although Carsten Haitzler's site mentions the use
of a 512 MB SD card, so that might be out of your range for flash
storage.

You've posted a good question, nonetheless, and thanks to the useful
tips from some of the other users, I might also try to run QT on a
framebuffer with KDrive.
