[Openembedded-users] Sources distributed without patches?

For some reason it hadn't really struck me until today that the
sources in the deploy directory lack the patches applied during the
do_patch step. In fact, they are just symlinks to the upstream sources
in my sources directory. Since we need to publish our actual sources
and not just the upstream stuff, this is something I'll have to change
before we fully switch over to OE, but I'm curious if there is a
reason that OE doesn't tar up sources suitable for code drops.
