Mickey: Fix broken links to older transcripts (linuxtogo is no more).

=OE Technical Steering Committee=

The TSC consists of 5 people who are elected by, and ultimately be answerable to, the members of the OpenEmbedded organisation.

Here is the [[TSCCharter | working copy]] of the new TSC charter.

The TSC meets on an irregular basis, but is happy to hold meetings on request if there are issues to discuss.

The TSC discusses technical issues for the direction of OpenEmbedded. Note that the TSC is NOT chartered with actually doing all of the work discussed, but they do make every effort to locate resources to do that work.

= Members =

In order by election:

* Martin Jansa (JaMa) - re-elected Aug 2019
* Richard Purdie (RP) - re-elected Aug 2019
* Paul Eggleton (bluelightning) - re-elected Aug 2019
* Bruce Ashfield elected Aug 2019
* Joshua Watt elected Aug 2019

Each member serves a two-year term. During election time, one member may stand for election every two months.

= Responsibilities =

On a day-to-day basis the TSC is responsible for making
tactical policy decisions, resolving disputes between contributors,
administering access control to the git tree, and generally promoting
good development practice.

= Decision Making =

Decisions are made where necessary by majority vote. Once a decision is made by
the technical steering committee, the decision should be respected as a democratic decision.

= TSC topics =

This list keeps a running list of topics for the TSC. If you would like to add a topic for discussion, please e-mail one of the TSC members or the list curator [mailto:JPEWhacker@gmail.com Joshua Watt] so that the TSC is aware of the change. The issue will be added to the agenda for the next meeting. If the issue is particularly urgent, a specific TSC meeting may be called.
Openembedded Developers are people who have write access to the git repository. Due to the nature of OE, there are many developers, and each one tends to maintain a section of OE. A list of maintainers can be found [http://cgit.openembedded.net/cgit.cgi?url=openembedded/tree/MAINTAINERS here]. See [[OpenEmbedded Developers]] for a list of current developers.
; Are contributions tax deductible?
: Yes they are.
; Should I become member of the OE e.V.?
: If you are contributing to OE frequently and/or you are interested in getting involved in administrative or organisational tasks it might be a good idea to join OE e.V.
; How do I become member of the OE e.V.?
: Let an existing member introduce you by sending a short introduction to the 'ev' [http://lists.linuxtogo.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/openembedded-members mailinglist]. If you don't know one get in touch with us on the development mailinglist or IRC first. The e.V. is open for anyone to join and its not meant to be an exclusive club of a few developers.
; Is there a membership fee?
: Yes, and no, since you are allowed to defined the amount on your own.

== General steps ==

# Find out which kernel version your custom kernel is (e.g. 2.6.27)
# Extract the diff: diff -Nurd linux-2.6.27/ linux-2.6.27-mymachine/ (this step is optional if you already have a diff)
# Add DEFAULT_PREFERENCE_mymachine = "1" and SRC_URI_append_mymachine = "file://mymachine.diff" to linux_2.6.27.bb
# Put defconfig in packages/linux/linux-2.6.27/mymachine/defconfig

If you really, really need to be ''special'' (which you really don't need, but companies seem to feel better when their name is plastered all over the place e.g. linux-mycompany_2.6.27.bb) you can create your ''own'' kernel recipe with the naming options you mentioned, then please use linux.inc to the basics working well. If even that is not ''special'' enough, then well, you are on your own.

By reusing a linux_2.6.xx recipe you can easily see what kind of patches other machines are applying and how issues with that kernel get solved.

Most of the time people that add new hardware to OE go through something like this (ARM example):

# Add mymachine.conf, linux-mymachine_2.6.xx.bb, openmymachine.conf distro
# Complain toolchain doesn't build, copy over versions from angstrom to get it fixed
# Complain their device doesn't boot, change defconfig to support EABI to get it fixed
# Complain NFS doesn't work, change defconfig to get that fixed

The toolchain problems wouldn't have been there if people had used an existing, working distro like angstrom, the kernel issues mentioned above are all handled automagically by linux.inc.

So people, please start by reusing existing things and creating your own stuff '''when need arises''', not when NIH arises.
* Decide on the Agenda.
* Should we hold a sprint? What would be the topic? QA, Angstrom polishing, doing our first stable release, creating a GUI for BitBake/OE?
* Sprint: merge .dreambox, get llvm to build, get llvm-cross working, pycurses angstrom setup gui
