With latest testing images (and with a fresh oe/produced image) linux does not
boot with the following error:

VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem).
Freeing init memory: 100K
Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found. Try passing init = Option to kernel.

I'm using haret to load the kernel, and was able in the past in loading
familiar 0.8.4.
