Thanks for the 5.8.8 logs. This is the failure:

  CMD =  ccache arm-linux-gcc -march=armv4 -DPERL_CORE -c
-I/export/interim/openembedded/tmp/sharprom-compatible/staging/arm-linux/include
-fexpensive-optimizations -fomit-frame-pointer -O2 -O2  -Wall
  arm-linux-gcc: remote.cpp:65: Environments parse_icecc_version(const
std::string&): Assertion `!icecc_version.empty()' failed.
make[1]: *** [miniperlmain.o] Aborted

This failed with an "icecc_version.empty() failed assertion, which looks to be
from icecc. So it looks like you are trying to use icecc and that's has some
issue with this toolchain?
