Summary: GDE under poodle won't suspend right, OPIE works fine
           Product: Openembedded
           Version: OpenZaurus 3.5.4.x
          Platform: ARM
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: Distributions
        AssignedTo: openembedded-issues at lists.openembedded.org
        ReportedBy: alexr at caltech.edu
         QAContact: tinderbox-oe at gmx.net

Zaurus 5600 running 3.5.4.2-rc2 poodle
In short: Under GDE, suspending causes the unit to freeze, still with screen
on. Killall apmd before suspending results in a successful suspend and restore,
but right after successful restore X crashes and restarts.

(16:59:14) calmofthestorm7: hmmmm...I've been googling, but I can't find
much...my Zaurus 5600 (Poodle) freezes (screen stays on) wehn I suspend under
GPE, works fine under OPIE
(16:59:15) calmofthestorm7: thoughts?
(16:59:50) XorA|gone: calmofthestorm7: its probably just shagged, next version
of OZ is I think 2.6 kernel based and will work much better
(17:00:20) XorA|gone: calmofthestorm7: 5600 didnt get much testing as we dont
have many of them
(17:00:53) calmofthestorm7: aah
(17:00:59) calmofthestorm7: ...but I am running a 2.6 kernel
(17:01:09) calmofthestorm7: according to uname -a it's 2.6.17
(17:02:04) XorA|gone: calmofthestorm7: self compiled?
(17:02:12) calmofthestorm7: no, stock 3.5.4.2rc2
(17:02:23) XorA|gone: calmofthestorm7: oh, the rc releases
(17:03:18) calmofthestorm7: anyway, any thoughts about the GPE vs OPIE
discrepency?
(17:03:40) calmofthestorm7: if you don't midn my asking, how deep is the
difference; eg, could there theoretically exist something like XDM/GDM for the
Zaurus that lets you switch between them?
(17:03:47) calmofthestorm7: I saw the how to that lets you run them on
different vt
(17:03:56) XorA|gone: calmofthestorm7: quick check of the repo and the xserver
is missing a patch I wrote to fix that problem
(17:04:20) calmofthestorm7: the suspend issue you mean?
(17:04:31) XorA|gone: calmofthestorm7: to conform, can you killall apmd then
try suspend
(17:04:41) XorA|gone: calmofthestorm7: yes the syspend iussue
(17:04:59) calmofthestorm7: hang on, need to boot
(17:05:35) calmofthestorm7: so you want me to boot, killall apmd then select
suspend from the menu (which I assume is the same as suspend.sh)
(17:05:46) XorA|gone: calmofthestorm7: yes
(17:06:18) SonicvanaJr left the room (quit: "Leaving").
(17:07:31) calmofthestorm7: (still booting)
(17:09:18) calmofthestorm7: it successfully suspends
(17:09:34) calmofthestorm7: and comes back
(17:09:43) calmofthestorm7: but I think the xserver might have restarted
(17:10:00) XorA|gone: calmofthestorm7: yeah, that is bug no 2
(17:10:20) XorA|gone: calmofthestorm7: file a bug at bugs.openembedded.org and
Ill fix it next week if no-one else does
(17:10:31) calmofthestorm7: um ok, do I just describe the problem?
(17:10:53) XorA|gone: calmofthestorm7: just copy and past this irc log
(17:10:57) calmofthestorm7: ok
(17:11:00) calmofthestorm7: will do so
(17:11:05) XorA|gone: calmofthestorm7: disable-apm patch is missing
(17:11:20) calmofthestorm7: ...does it matter that the xserver dies on suspend?
(17:11:39) XorA|gone: calmofthestorm7: my patch should fix that as well, its
two birds with one stone type
(17:11:44) calmofthestorm7: ooh lovely
(17:11:49) calmofthestorm7: I heart free software
(17:11:57) calmofthestorm7: anyway, thanks much and I shall post the bug
shortly
(17:12:16) XorA|gone: calmofthestorm7: I need to talk to hrw|gone to find out
what X server next release will use
(17:12:33) cyn_ [n=cyn at cpe-066-057-046-006.nc.res.rr.com] entered the room.
(17:12:34) cyn__ left the room (quit: Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)).
(17:12:38) calmofthestorm7: cool
