bug 3886 and bug 4118 which I just marked as dupes have collected some very
interesting data.  I have chosen this bug to continue discussion and try to
either fix 118 or a more recent version.  I think that at this point in time we
are not looking much for any more "X is not working" than patches, even small
steps.  After they have been committed, everyone can go back to test whether
the issue has improved for them or is even fixed.  I don't expect we will fix
all udev issues that have been reported in one go.  Thus, we might spin off
again certain aspects into focused subtasks.

Next steps:
1) any patches we can steal from poky, debian, ubuntu, gentoo or elsewhere?
2) can we get a more recent version to compile or is that unlikely to even
help?
