Hi Ken,
if you need this patch then something is strange with your checked out OE.
Please make sure you have the latest files in your classes/ and conf/ folder.

Your bitbake.conf should contain the following lines:

# Base package name
# Automatically derives "foo" from "foo-native", "foo-cross" or "foo-initial"
# otherwise it is the same as PN and P
BPN = "${@base_package_name(d)}"
BP = "${BPN}-${PV}"
