Hi Robert,

  Thanks for your help...  Well, I happen to be using Poky 3.1.1, not stock OE.
 If I look in meta/conf/bitbake.conf niether BP or BPN appear at all:

$ cat meta/conf/bitbake.conf | grep BPN
$

I wonder...would adding these variables to my bitbake.conf be the solution?
