I tested this and made some further changes in
47b75b678cf4bede24082e551e04f186734a008c which I think improves upon xjqian's
work (thanks for fixing the root problem)

The image I compiled starts opie fine, but now has a similar problem as bug
3719.  In fact, I think it is bug 3719.

Closing this bug, feel free to reopen if you are still experiencing this
problem with an image compiled from a descendant of
47b75b678cf4bede24082e551e04f186734a008c.
