identical copy from bug 3955

1. cross badness. e.g.
/usr/bin/ld: skipping incompatible
/OE/build/tmp-new/angstrom/staging/arm-angstrom-linux-uclibcgnueabi/usr/lib/libc.so
when searching for -lc
/usr/bin/ld: skipping incompatible

2. header dir frustration

error: linux/config.h: No such file or directory

plan to ditch the old 0.2.1-per26 and test 0.2.8 as default for tosa.
