I'm actually having this same problem with my Sharp Zaurus SL-6000 (tosa). 
When I first start up it doesn't work, but then when I restart the gpe-dm
process, it starts working.  I think this sounds like a similar problem.  Does
anybody have network access to their devices (through usb or wireless?) that
can try this?
