shadow passwords

hi all,
i succesfully built a minimail image with sysvinit, tinylogin and busybox.
the complete list of packege installed is:
PACKAGE_INSTALL += "busybox sysvinit sysvinit-inittab sysvinit-pidof
tinylogin base-files base-passwd initscripts netbase zlib dropbear
update-rc.d"


The system boots up, dropbear is started, i can ssh on the machine
(which does not provide a login screen by default), but i don't know
the password!

I searched a lot, and confronted my system with the openmoko one, i do
not understand who (what package) is in charge of maintaining
passwords, where they are stored, and if there is an encryption mothod
or not.

do you have any idea, at least of what the default root passord is?
