Robert, thank you for your work on this.  Looks good to me.  A few comments

* I'd make separate commits for conf/distro/ and packages/
* I did some minor work on olsr these days, including 
  5ebc68ac23faeb96effdf4f594c20c57c3f1ab5c which introduced the MAJ_VER
  variable to ease transition from one major release to the next
